Jeff (my husband) and I came to Crossfit Bluegrass in December 2013, after crossfiting for about a year. Why, you may ask? Why did we come to Bluegrass and not any other gym in Louisville? Well, because it is awesome! It is just pure awesome! I don’t even know where to begin to describe how much we love this place…
I guess I will start with the first day when we came to “check it out”. All I remember is a lot of smiling faces and people having fun while sweating their behinds off.
We dropped in for a WOD and we were both in awe of how organized and well structured the class was that we attended. I remember looking at the board and thinking: “there is no way in hell we will fit all of that in one hour”, but we were pleasantly surprised. Everything just went so smooth.
While we were working out, coach Jo was walking around the whole gym and really paying attention to every single person. Her cues on how to fix movements are phenomenal…short and to the point. She even sneaks in a video during the WOD so she can show you how to improve on that particular movement.
I was really impressed at how much she valued every single athlete and how she truly wanted everyone to improve. The atmosphere? Well, of course it is high energy. It is a CrossFit gym! But it was also more than that. Everyone was very encouraging and supportive. I remember struggling with snatches, and several members stood next to me, encouraging me to finish.
We also immediately noticed that this gym takes pride in their place. The facility is well organized and clean. If something is broken they fix it. But it is more than that: they will improve it so it is more durable. The approach to the box is just like their approach to fitness: continue to build it up and make it stronger and more functional. As athlete’s skills progress, so does the level and amount of equipment that the box acquires. It was really cool when a bunch of us started doing muscle-ups around the same time and CFBG immediately purchased more ring stations.
What can I say, they love to take care of us. Of course every CrossFit box is proud of their community and everyone can see why. People are there everyday working hard on a common goal: to get fit. But this CrossFit Bluegrass Community is like no other. I have met some of the most sincere, loving, energetic, fun, and caring people at this box and I am so lucky to be able to call them my friends. “Bad days” quickly change into awesome as soon as I step in to the box and see the smiling faces. Despite some very challenging WODs, this group of people always finds something to laugh about. We take our programming serious but we also like to have fun. Can you blame me for wanting to be there all the time??? And speaking of programming: I works! It’s amazing! Both, Jeff and I have gotten more Personal Records in the short time we have been here than we could have ever imagined.
I have to give credit where credit is due. We are truly blessed to follow such an amazing program (Power and Grace) and to have such knowledgeable and encouraging coaches. For those of you who know me, know how much I dislike snatches. In a matter of two weeks (in preparation for a competition) I went from a #75 snatch (on a good day) to a #105 snatch. Whoa! Because of the programming and very patient coaches I was able to pull that off, and that is just one of many examples. I am telling you, every single coach is absolutely amazing. Everyone has a different coaching style, but they all work towards a common goal: to make us all better athletes.
CrossFit Bluegrass truly isn’t your average CrossFit gym. CFBG is a place where I can forget about the stressful day I may have had or the million other worries that occupy my mind and simply have healthy fun with my amazing friends. We love this gym and are so happy to have met so many amazing people.
