In July, 2013 my husband, Jimi and I joined CFBG. Jimi had been talking about CrossFit for over a year, but I was really reluctant. The weightlifting component scared me and I had just come off a back injury which kept me out of the gym for almost two years. I told my husband, “I’ll try it with you for a month to help you get acclimated and then I’m going to do something more low impact.” Well, here we are nearly a year and a half later and we are fully committed CrossFitters.
There are so many reasons why we love CFBG… First of all, the workouts are never the same (which constantly challenges our muscles), there are always ways to modify the exercises and movements (which keeps us from feeling discouraged), our coaches are so attentive and helpful, our fellow athletes are so friendly and encouraging, and most of all, CFBG is like one big family! We have gained so many friends here. There’s something so special about working out with people who care about you and who want you to succeed. Everyone cheers each other on and takes the time to help each other. I’ll never forget one of my first classes, the girl who finished the workout first came over to all of us who were struggling and cheered us on until we finished. From the “twenty something” athletes to the “fifty something” athletes, from the beginners to the advanced, everyone is cheering for everyone. We are all working in unison as a team, leaving no one behind.
I am now 41 and Jimi is 48. Jimi came to CFBG with high cholesterol and triglycerides and had had been on medication to treat them for over ten years. Earlier this year, with the combination of CrossFit and modifying his diet, Jimi stopped taking all his medication and is maintaining his health naturally. We cannot thank CFBG enough for giving us back our health, our mobility, our confidence and most of all, a huge family of friends we dearly love. We love our CFBG family!!!
