Irena has always been an active person and has made fitness and playing sports an important part of her life. Although she has played individual sports, she mostly enjoys team sports. She has played handball (European team handball), soccer, tennis and ran half and full marathons before discovering CrossFit.
Irena started CrossFit in November 2012 and was immediately hooked. Her husband Jeff watched the CrossFit Games on ESPN and suggested trying it out. She was very skeptical at first and thought it would be just another bootcamp class but the first class made her realize how much she needed to work on despite her “active” lifestyle. Constantly varied, challenging work outs and community is what kept her so interested and showing up every day.
After doing CrossFit for 1.5 years, she decided to get her Level 1 at Crossfit Mayhem. She is very passionate about this sport and loves sharing it with others. It is very rewarding to her to see athletes reach goals that they thought were never possible.
When Irena is not at CrossFit Bluegrass working out, she works as a lead engineer at GE. She also enjoys outdoor sports (Skiing, snowboarding, wakeboarding and wake surfing) and relaxing with friends.
